Project aims &
issues
This paper presents some preliminary
perspectives from a case study in the municipality of the
town of Ringkøbing. It was presented during the
seminar of the European Network on Urban Density and Green
Structure in Ringkoebing, August 1998.
The Danish Building
Research Institute is undertaking research into these
issues.
Apart from an initial short introduction
to the Danish planning system and to Ringkøbing
itself, the paper deals with 2 main topics: The first part
focuses on the political goals for the planning and
management of green space, including how aims for the
integration of ecological perspectives compare at different
levels (in the municipal plan and local plans). The second
part deals with the ways in which green areas are actually
managed. It describes how the municipality organises and
practises the management of its own areas. But it also
includes how the municipality communicates with and issues
directives for other owners/managers of green space e.g.
private house owners, other institutions and a co-operative
housing society, and what the physical result of this
interaction might be.
Other relevant environmental issues are
also covered in this paper.
